The lives of more than 1000 children were changed forever as people from every corner of the nation rallied together to fight poverty through this year’s Compassion Day.
Phones ran hot from 6 am until midnight on Compassion Day’s 10th anniversary as 42 radio stations and the Australian Christian Channel worked with us to see children in desperate need sponsored. Over the last 10 years, more than 6200 total children have been sponsored, including 65 at the very first Compassion Day.
"Australians have dug deep in a time of need to help the children of the world. Thank you to every person who made the decision to change a life," Compassion CEO Paul O’Rourke said.
"Because that’s exactly what you have done – helped to change a life. Child sponsorship can dramatically alter the course of a child’s life, not only by giving them the practical support they desperately need, but also by giving them the hope, love and support to break free from the tragic bonds of poverty that they were born into."
This year’s Compassion Day focussed on giving hope to the hungry in Bangladesh and Ethiopia, two of the countries most affected by the current global food crisis that is forcing millions more people into extreme poverty.

"It was our aim to give hope to the hungry this Compassion Day. All the children sponsored are living in areas at moderate to high risk of malnutrition because of the global food crisis," Mr O’Rourke said.
"We are their rescue package at this desperate time. Thank you everyone for making this happen."
Thankyou Australia!
